I am a sculptor primarily working in ceramic. My airy sculptures play between representational found items, architectural elements, and organic forms. I draw from a library of recurring shapes and motifs from both mass produced and organic matter. I am interested in the tension between preciousness and strength, which I explore through diverse compositions of material fragility. By pushing the ceramic medium to its structural limits, using coils and pinched extrusions, I create cavities of space within thin lines, accentuating delicacy, fragility, and precarity. The resulting semi-permeable spaces are an invitation into psychological space, semi-shelter, or bodily cavities. Ceramic material, while brittle, vitrifies creating a compound so long lasting that its components will be around for generations to come.
